Fall Trail Clearing & Building with East Greenwich Land Trust

October 25, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This event is posted on behalf of the East Greenwich Land Trust. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please register here.

The Land Trust has been working on an exciting project for our community: we’ve designed a ~2-mile trail system on the 120-acre parcel donated to the Town of East Greenwich by Mary Clark in 2020, and we are clearing a new trail on the parcel that will be open to the public.
This community workday event will start with a group hike of the main loop trail, which we cleared this summer. We’ll then continue with clearing a new spur loop off the main loop. The new spur loop has already been flagged, and Land Trust members will be on-site to direct and oversee the work.
Important Note on Event Scope & Safety: Please keep in mind that this trail system is currently in development, unmarked, uneven, and not accessible. Because this is an active workday focused on trail clearing and prep work rather than a grand opening celebration (which we are eagerly planning for the spring!), this event is not suitable for dogs, other animals, or small children under 10 years old.
Program Timing
Program begins promptly at 10:00 AM and will run for approximately 2 to 3 hours. You are welcome to join just for the initial group hike/trail preview or stay for the full clearing session—whatever fits your schedule.
Please arrive a few minutes early to gather at the meeting point. The event will run 2-3 hours – leaving early or joining just for the initial hike/trail preview is perfectly ok!
Rain date
This event is rain or shine, no rain date.
Parking and Arrival
The meet-up point will be at ~725 Tillinghast Rd, East Greenwich — due south from the New England Wireless & Steam Museum. There is a gap in the stone wall on the west side of the road that is wide enough for vehicles to enter. Here is a link to the exact location.
Pull through the gap in the stone wall on Tillinghast Road where trustees or town staff will greet you and guide parking in the field. The main trailhead for the new trail system will eventually be placed beyond that wall, once a formal parking area is established there.
What to Bring & Wear
* Footwear: Sturdy, closed-toe hiking boots or trail shoes (the ground is uneven and unpaved).
* Clothing: Long pants and tall socks (recommended for brush and tick prevention). Work gloves if you have them.
* Hydration & Fuel: Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
* Tools: If you have your own loppers, hand pruners, or folding saws, feel free to bring them along labeled with your name. Otherwise, we will have gear available.
Contact
Messenger – Faceboook messaging will be best form of contact prior to the event for any questions or concerns.
Registrants will be provided with contact information of Land Trust personnel for day-of coordination.
