The Council is pleased to announce that 2023 was a banner year for the RI Land Trust Council and land conservation advocacy efforts at the State House. In addition to tracking 87 bills, we made significant progress on all of our priority legislation this year, including:
- The passage of the “liberal interpretation” clause in our state’s enabling legislation for conservation easements
- $2.5 Million appropriated from the Governor’s FY 24 Budget to fund the Agricultural Land Preservation Commission and the state’s farmland preservation work
- Comprehensive solar siting reforms that prevent financial incentives from the development of ground mounted solar in our core forests of 250+ acres or more
